Itinerary
Day 1-Arrival in Guadalajara. Join us for a welcome drink and meet your fellow travelers. This evening, we will have an orientation tour of Tlaquepaque, our home for the next week.
Tonight we will learn how to make authentic guacamole and several types of salsas before enjoying a gourmet dinner. Dinner included.
Day 2- Join us on a tour of Guadalajara’s historic center. Founded in 1542, Guadalajara is Mexico’s 2nd largest city and the birthplace of Mariachi. Some sights included are the Cathedral, Mercado Libertad, with over 1000 vendors making it the largest indoor market in Latin America, City Hall, and the Cabanas Cultural Institute with Orozco’s famous murals. We will also attend the famous Folkloric Ballet that reflects the traditional culture of Mexico. Breakfast included.
Day 3- We will visit a variety of craftsman in their studio/homes today with the opportunity to buy directly from them at wholesale prices. Breakfast included.
Day 4-Today we will go to the city of Tepic, which is the starting point for our special excursion into the Sierra Madres to a small village where Huichol Indians live. Normally, inaccessible to the public, we will have the opportunity to watch them make jewelry, yarn paintings and other crafts they are known for, and to buy these directly from them. Breakfast and lunch included.
Day 5-This is our day for rejuvenation with an excursion to the small town of San Juan Cosala located on the North side of Lake Chapala. The town is know for its hot mineral springs and thermal waters. These waters are of the magmatic type with origins from underground natural springs warmed by volcanic magma. Soaking in these waters will increase blood circulation and oxygenation and improve the nutrition of the tissues of the body, as well as increasing metabolism. After our day of relaxing, we will have a leisurely dinner. Dinner included.
Day 6- This morning we will travel to the nearby village of Tonala, to the largest outdoor market in Mexico, a tradition dating back hundreds of years.
The afternoon is free for exploring Tlaquepaque, a decorators paradise, with many home furnishing and accessory shops. Breakfast included.
Day 7- Today we journey to Lake Chapala, one of the most beautiful villages in Mexico to meet and buy from Master Artists from all over Mexico at the annual Feria Maestros del Arte. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase Mexican arts and crafts from some of the finest artists in Mexico. Many of these artists were featured in the acclaimed book, “Great Masters of Mexican Folk Art”. The artists represent the best in clay, paper, fabric, paint, wood, stone, silver, and alpacca. Packing and shipping available onsite. We will enjoy lunch in a beautiful lakeside restaurant. You will also have time to enjoy the atmosphere of this delightful town. Breakfast and lunch included.
Day 8- After breakfast it is time to return home with memories and folk art from this journey through Jalisco.
